Opin.fi themes

In addition to its search features, opin.fi enables browsing educational offerings by theme. The themes have been defined in collaboration with the Digivisio project, which is developing the service, and higher education institutions. Changes to theme titles, descriptions and use of themes are highly likely in the near future once we have received feedback and development requests on the theme functionalities from users.

The admin users of opin.fi at the University of Helsinki assign themes for open university education using AI (Microsoft Copilot). In Sisu, theme classification is indicated at course and study module levels. Individual course implementations are assigned a theme automatically on the basis of the relevant course. Only modules and courses for which a suitable theme can be found in the predetermined classification are assigned a theme. In other words, not all study modules or courses offered as open university education are necessarily classified under a theme. 

You can check the theme of your teaching by writing the name of your course in the search field at opin.fi and selecting the course from the results. The theme is indicated at the bottom of the page. Please note that the results primarily show teaching for which registration is upcoming or currently under way. Offerings by partner educational institutions cannot yet be displayed due to technical limitations.

Opin.fi showcases additional teaching and research content

By using opin.fi, you can increase the visibility of additional material supporting your teaching, such as videos and podcasts. You can moreover provide an overview of your open university courses and associated content to attract a growing number of motivated students.
