Instructions for Thinglink.
Instructions for Thinglink.
Thinglink can be used to create rich multimedia and interactive learning materials without much technical know-how. You can add or even generate a wide variety of media content types, such as images, videos, 3D models and 360-degree images. Tags can then be used to embed, for example, additional information that supports learning or various tasks into the background images and videos. Finally you link individual pieces of content together into a larger whole that may include narrative and gamified elements.
Thinglink also makes it possible to build scenarios, which are typically interactive learning paths where the user’s choices determine how the content progresses. Scenarios are used, for instance, to simulate different situations or to build gamified content. In such virtual learning environments, users can practise new or challenging situations (e.g. safety orientations).
With the Tour feature, several images can be combined into linked image sequences with text-to-speech narration, which makes it possible to build, for example, guided tours and various interactive stories.
Thinglink also offers a VR mode that allows you to view Thinglink content with VR headsets. This feature is particularly well suited for using entities built around various types of 360-degree content.
A Thinglink school license has been acquired for both university staff and students. Thinglink is integrated into the university’s Office 365 package, and below you will find instructions for getting started, including the first login.
In the future you can log in via the same address by first selecting “Login with Microsoft” (the Microsoft logo). After that, use your university user account (username@ad.helsinki.fi) and password to log in.
In the Thinglink Learning Center you will find all the most up-to-date instructions and video tutorials to support your use of the service, as well as plenty of additional material (e.g. case studies and usage examples). Thinglink’s Support Center also provides convenient guidance for the various stages of building content.
It is usually best to start learning how to use Thinglink by familiarising yourself with the Media Editor. You can learn the basic skills with these instructional videos.
Support and training in using Thinglink is available from the Teaching Media Team (uni-help@helsinki.fi).
